Conformal Relativistic Viscous Hydrodynamics: Applications to RHIC

چکیده

A new set of equations for relativistic viscous hydrodynamics that captures both weak-coupling and strong-coupling physics to second order in gradients has been developed recently. We apply this framework to bulk physics at RHIC, both for standard (Glaubertype) as well as for Color-Glass-Condensate initial conditions and show that the results do not depend strongly on the values for the second-order transport coefficients. Results for multiplicity, radial flow and elliptic flow are presented and we quote the ratio of viscosity over entropy density for which our hydrodynamic model is consistent with experimental data. For Color-Glass-Condensate initial conditions, early thermalization does not seem to be required in order for hydrodynamics to describe charged hadron elliptic flow.

Extracting the QGP viscosity from RHIC data – a status report from viscous hydrodynamics

We report recent progress on causal viscous hydrodynamics for relativistic heavy ion collisions. For fixed specific shear viscosity η/s, uncertainties in the elliptic flow arising from initial conditions, equation of state, bulk viscosity and numerical viscosity, and the treatment of the highly viscous hadronic stage and freeze-out procedure are analysed. A comparison of current viscous hydrody...

Shear Transport Coefficients from Gauge/Gravity Correspondence

We study the shear mode in the gauge/gravity correspondence at finite temperature. First, we confirm the general formula for the shear viscosity in an arbitrary background metric which includes a black hole in the fifth dimension. We then derive a general formula for the shear mode relaxation time which appears in the theory of relativistic dissipative fluid dynamics; it agrees with known expre...

Relativistic viscous hydrodynamics, conformal invariance, and holography

We consider second-order viscous hydrodynamics in conformal field theories at finite temperature. We show that conformal invariance imposes powerful constraints on the form of the second-order corrections. By matching to the AdS/CFT calculations of correlators, and to recent results for Bjorken flow obtained by Heller and Janik, we find three (out of five) second-order transport coefficients in...

Relaxation time of a CFT plasma at finite coupling

Following recent formulation of second order relativistic viscous hydrodynamics for conformal fluids, we compute finite coupling corrections to the relaxation time of N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills plasma. The result is expected to be universal for any strongly coupled conformal gauge theory plasma in four dimensions.
